I really didn't want to be the first to mention Mcdonalds coffee but I actually do really like it now. I remember the old crap they used to serve you in a tiny overflowing little styrofoam cup ... ugg.

P.S. I too liked the Mcpizza, it was freaking good!

i don't believe they really put nicotine in their coffee. i don't drink coffee though so i guess i wouldn't know how addictive it is. but there are many articles on them not having it in there and i never found anything but rumours of them having it in there.

Okay guys, it's not nicotine... geeeeeeze!  We all know it's actually a combination of Meth and Heroin.  Ever notice the people lining up for 15min, for a lousy tasting coffee, picking at their faces?

I was waiting for Flex to pipe in.

the ONLY reason for not going to second cup opposed to starbucks for me is Bev. She feels that the "drinks" (e.g. lattes) are way too sweet. I'm sure there's variance between stores but she refuses to get hers there. which is a shame since I absolutely love the vanilla bean lattes rather than starbucks vanilla lattes. If I'm out alone and have a craving - it's second cup for sure. I should also say that I rarely buy "just" a cup of coffee. If I do get something it's a "drink" as above.

Thanks for the timmies info Flex... I figured there was somethin in there. Been trying to make my coffee at home more and more.

I have to sorta disagree on the part that second cup coffee is that much better than starbucks. I've found that no matter what city/province/country I'm in, I can always count on starbucks coffee tasting good. But second cup is really hit or miss. Some locations burn a lotta their brews. Though they had the El Toucan downstairs this morning and it was pretty darn good, not too bitter for a med-dk and smooth and nutty. I think the second cup on jasper and 112th supply us with coffee.

And I can't respect anyones tastes if they say tim hortons coffee is delicious. It's bland and has a 'pleasant' taste, absolute lack of sophistication. It's the absolute definition of an ideal truckers coffee. People who enjoy tim hortons coffee are folk who order 'RED' wine at restaurants!! jk... ..... ... or am i??

You can ask to have the drinks made half sweet. Thats a pretty common request, we also have sugar free syrups as well. Come by our place when we are there, I will have Jenn make her a drink of her choice half sweet....if she doesnt like it, its on me.

As I said before there are a lot more factors then just the beans on how a coffee will taste. And yes some stores are inconsistant and it shouldnt be like that. But I have found Starbucks to be like that as well. When I was in vegas they have 2 Starbucks in the MGM grand.....the one over by the shopping tasted like assay and the one in the casino was a lot better. Also in vancouver I have found that as well. Its all how the store is run, and in my experience with second cup it all depends on how hands on the owners are. The stores (like ours) where the owners are actively involved are a lot better.

I have only had one cup of coffee my entire life:  I had a cappucino at a trattoria near the Vittoria Emmanuel in Rome.  People often say "wow, that must have been an awesome cappucino," and my response is generally "actually, I really don't know!"  I love my Chai and Earl Grey, though (although even that I only have a few times a year).

No surprise here...  I drink tea and am very picky.  I like expensive quality teas.

Good book for learning about tea is  "all the tea in China" , it is a well written discussion on
the effect of tea and the benefits of the different types.

You didn't just compare Heineken and Stella - oh no you di'n't!  If you want to start a beer thread, we'll need to get pitwipe and Jit in on it.  They are all about the beer.  Heineken and Pil are closer than Heiny and Stella...

Oooh coffee thread, i like! im so addicted its not even funny. i have a starbucks in the store i work at and a timmies across the street, but i will actually hop into my car (any excuse to do that!) and drive over to a second cup a few blocks east to get the green tea latte! its like a hot version of green tea ice cream..yum.  starbucks blends are too strong tasting. on days when i really just get it for the caffiene, i dump into my cup almost the entire shaker of the vanillla flavouring (when no one's looking) with loads of cream and sugar. but for the best cuppucino ever, u have to try 'Taza d'oro' which i have only seen in Rome....coffee never tasted the same after that momnent :(.  if anyone knows where i can get some taza d'oro  around here...please let me know!

I'll have some Starbucks/Second Cup every now and then (we have Starbucks for free at work here) so I can't complain. At home though I make Kicking Horse coffee. It's great stuff.

How can you resist a coffee with a name like Kicking Horse 454 Horsepower?

Thats a huge misconception about caffeine content in coffee. The darker roast coffees actually have less caffeine in them as the roasting process takes it out. The flavored coffees actually have the most caffeine as they are roasted the least of the beans. The flavored coffees even have more caffeine in them then the expresso, the expresso just tastes stronger as it is more concentrated.

Hmm I wonder if you guys get the same crap we get, is it supplied by Aramark?

O wait I just went and grabbed another pack of it, maybe it isn't. This sutff here is in a brown foil bag, it is called "Diplomat" and it says it is 100% Colombian Excelso Coffee.

It also has "Steps in making good coffee" on the back. You know, just incase you are too retarded to know how to do it, or you are a 5 year old trying to make your first cup of coffee.
1. Place filter in brew basket.
2. Empty coffee in filter.
3. Slide brew basket into place.
4. Pour cold water only into top of unit.
5. Never pour coffee back into unit.
