TGV = Tumble Generator Valve - This sits between the intake manifold and head. It has a butterfly valve that is closed during start up to "tumble" the air fuel mixture for better burn while the cats warm up. Purely an emissions thing.

I modified my own this summer. Top one is factory, bottom one is with the butterfly removed.

BCS = Boost Control Solenoid - A valve controlled by the ECU to regulate boost levels and operates in bleed mode. Prodrive, GMBCS, etc are BCS that operate in interrupt mode allowing for better spool characteristics, as well as holding higher boost (>~18psi) levels better.

Hope that helps.

Jeff

so why would you remove it?

TGV's? To provide more flow into the cylinder head plain and simple.

If the TGVs are closed during startup, how does air enter engine? I'm somewhat confused on how they work, are they essentially little throttlebodies close to the engine?

This picture shows them closed. Notice the wall on the near side of the opening? Air is forced to go through there to create the tumble effect. You can see the wall better in the picture I posted earlier.

Sorry Jutes, this is getting off topic ... if you guys want more info you should start a new thread.

Thanks for reminding me. I have to ask the shop whytf it's taking so long with the porting. Not that I care since this build will have to be put on hold until next spring.

I didnt know Blouch used Mitsu compressor housings for there turbo's? What about the hot side?

It's got Garret GT30R ball bearing internals though right?

Yep, it's essentially a Mitsu compressor with Garrett Compressor wheel, turbine wheel and ball bearings. Guess thats why they call them hybrids.

I'm going to seriously consider this turbo I think. I love the fact that it's ball bearing and it's got Garrett internals.

As long as I can get the 2-1/2"(stock) compressor inlet so I don't have to delete my tgv's, this is the turbo I'll get for sure.

If you got it new, I applaud you.

Here is a c/p post from nasioc. :(

Upon closer inspection of the turbo i've noticed a few things. 1, there is a small amount of shaft play side-to-side, this, from what I've searched is normal so I'll let that go. Second what concerns me the most is that there's axial play in the shaft, mabye a millimeter at the most. Lastly, I noticed this gem in the compressor housing:

http://i226.photobucket.com/albums/dd151/pushok85/Turbo%20Build/000_0817.jpg

It looks like the thread hole for one of the screws that holds the mounting bracket for the actuator.

I'm just gonna screw it and throw the turbo on, overhand. If it blows then so be it, it will go back to Blouch, again.

I'll just install the turbo as-is.

I'll be heading to Rocket Rally for my final tune, and so should you. I wouldn't trust anyone else with my car...except Airboy that is. ;)

I've seen Pat tune at Rocket, and I know he takes pride in what the cars run like after they leave the shop. Also, when he's tuning, he doesn't stop, not for a smoke/break/telephone call... anything. For the little extra in fuel to make it there, have the tune, then make it back its worth it imho.

If I do a decent build....say a Dom 3, then I'll be going to Pat for sure. I'll make a little long weekend holiday out of it most likely. Man that was a fun little ride in wrex4's car last night. I love the sweet wistle of the ball bearing Dom 3!!!!

I don't think TGV deletes will make that big of difference on start up.

So far my TGV delete has made no difference to start up. I'll see if that changes as the weather gets colder.
