oh but i'm just pretty sure you cant do a 100% flush without a machine since I have green coolant right now, not sure if its safe to mix the two

do you mix the blue with water? If so...

1. park car on driveway
2. disconnect lower rad hose (and make sure fill caps are off)
3. drain into bucket for future "approved disposal" :sarcasm:
4. once drained disconnect upper rad hose
5. shove garden hose into the coolant return passage and turn on the water (make sure your pail is big enough or let it "disappear")
6. turn off the water once the fluid coming out the bottom is clear (not green - duh?)
7. repeat steps 5 and 6 with the hose shoved in the rad

Of course you can always just buy one of those coolant flush kits from CT... no idea if they work...

If you disconnect the lower rad hose and pull the thermostat, it'll empty.

I followed this procedure for the most part, with some modifications:

Got hitch repositioned and RSB installed in time for the road trip:

Compare stock with 20mm adjustable whiteline:

Kartboy endlink:

Mount point (with AVO reinforced mounts):

Took it for a quick spin in the rain, around sweeping corners the car feels more planted.  Well worth it.

Picked up a GrimmSpeed Master Brake Cylinder Brace for the Legacy GT during their group buy on LegacyGT.com.

Here's a picture of what it looks like:

Here's a video of the movement of the MBC as I'm pumping the brakes.  You can see movement around the 10 second mark:

The install was a pain in the assay.  I followed the instructions here and also the PDF from GrimmSpeed themselves.  There's not a lot of room to work with in there, even with spindly arms like mine I found lots of sharp edges.

Here's a video after the brace is put in.

There's still a tiny bit of movement when you stomp on the brakes hard, but there's nothing that can be done about that.

What does the butt dyno say?  There's a significant improvement in brake feel.  Compared to the mushy stock brakes, I'd say that the engagement point during the brake pedal travel has moved up significantly, and braking feel has also imrpoved.  In combination with stainless steel brake lines, a brake flush (current fluid is about 4000km old), this mod is well worth it.  I paid $75 during the group buy, and I reckon it's probably one of the better purchases with respect to car mods.

The "'cos you never know" mod.  Useful to have another 12V accessory jack in the cargo area,  r/c charging, beer cooler, etc.  The LL Bean and VDC Outbacks came with such jack in the US, but research indicated that there was already "roughed in" wiring to that area on all LGT wagoons.

Parts List:
86711FA060--Socket Assembly
86712FA010-- Cap
86716AG000--Ring Nut

All told, about $10 from SGP.

The "I need more kleener air" mod.

The 05/06 Legacys didn't come with an in-cabin air filter.  I guess some assembly guy decided to try to fit one in, but bailed on his pet project at the last minute:

I ordered 2008 Legacy GT interior parts.  Total cost about $100 CDN.

Glove box back panel - 66208AG07A
Air filtration access cover - 66241AG29A
5 Clip's (pop-its) - 909140037
Pocket cushion - 66153GA000
2 M5 Tapping Scews - 904500025
2pc: 902510011 nut (this was the wrong part number as it shipped M4 nuts.. I needed M5. They resemble server rack nuts)

Old glovebox backing:

Hey, what's that back there?  Closer look:

Couldn't even cut straight.  Let's see what the back looks like:

Nice hack job!  If the LGT was made in Japan much seppuku would have happened to restore factory worker honor, but since the Leggys have been made in the Good Old USA for the last few generations, factory worker just took another sip from Bud Light and carried on.

But I digress.

When the console and glovebox area have been taken apart:

That's just a blank tray. No filter element in there.  No pics of that.

Old and new glovebox backing:

After that bolt everything together.  Sorry, no pics of that either.

Had to undo the console starting from the armrest/shifter/console side piece/right end cap just to get at the glovebox compartment.

Been planning on building a racing rig to play Gran Turismo or Forza or whatever kids play these days.

Need a racing wheel, so I thought I'd pick up a new toilet seat.

Since the seat and the cockpit hasn't been built yet, I put the new ring on Bluestreak:

Banded my oem intercooler tonight.

Ordered the kit from BarBeanMan on LegacyGT.com.

Easy install, but I can't get the IC back into its original orientation.  It's off by a few degrees on the drivers side.

Excuse the blurry phone pics.  It was slightly windy out.

Cool project! Was the aux in hard to do? I was looking at doing the 08 deck, but still undecided.

aux-in was my first mod.  Not much soldering experience and the antenna wire ripped a bit, so I figured out quickly how to do it.

Don't our timing belts last to ~160,000 km?  If not, them I'm in the same boat as you with similar mileage.  Maybe we should schedule a maintenance party this year?

If you check the manual, Subaru recommends doing it earlier in "harsh environments" (AKA deserts or Canada). I had to do mine ~140k, and many others have had to do it earlier. You should regularly inspect it.

Buncha stupid little problems popped up lately...

. Outside mirror/heated wiper elements on windshield stopped working
. Airbag light doesn't turn off after starting car..  sometimes rebooting fixes it, other times it doesn't
. Temperature display on console flashing.  It was -20C last week, not 3C when it normally flashes to tell me it's cold
. Reverse lights stopped working.  As did FM antenna and license plate lights.  Methinks wires in the tailgates got severed
. Passengers side front axle inside joint leaking

Argh.

I don't know the specifics of the wiring on a wagon, but I'd also check the fuses for a few of those issues.

Half that crap started working again when I started my car to drive home after work..

uckfaying car...  FM antenna still on the fritz, and the plate LED pulses with the exhaust rumble beats.  Oontz oontz.  I remember buddies in high school paying for a little glow stick that you mount on your dash that pulses.. wasn't cheap either.
