anyone rebuild ksport rally gravel?
« on: February 26, 2015, 06:51:47 am »
Most recent car I bought came with a set, haven't had time to pull/swap them for oem. Back left is shot for sure. Rebuild worth it or toss me in the garbage?

I would toss anything K Sport in the bin from what I have heard...
I don't name things I know I'm going to sell eventually. Hence why I'd never name any kids I had.

Garbage... like other Chinese suspensions, brakes, etc...
D2, Ksport, and not sure what is the name of 3rd brand... all manufactured in same factory... If you compare pictures it is same, just different color.

BC, Megan,ect.

And as much as people say how bad they are, they really aren't that bad. Are they KW's, Ohlins, JRZ, or upper level Blisteins - no, of course not. But the internet makes it seem like your car is literally going to drive itself off a cliff because the shock imploded on itself. The thing I found bad about cheaper shocks was their "small bump" damping and rebound characteristics.

I've driven in cars with Ksports, Tein, BC's, ect and it's almost always been an improvement over stock in terms of PERFORMANCE, not comfort, ect. Also note that those cars were not S2K's, BRZ's, STI's, M3's, S4's, 911's, ect that have a good suspension in its stock form.

Plenty of budget rally guys run them. Are they great? No. But they are better than stock for running on rough gravel roads at speed.

Ksport sell replacement inserts for something like $160, there isn't really any "rebuilding" them. In fact, Ksport was even warrantying inserts that the owner told them he had rallied on. Feal might be able to do something with them.

Since they are off a Subaru, there are a lot of people who would take them off your hands as cheap spares in Alberta. But if you want to keep them, contact Ksport to get inserts IMO! :)
