Got the CarBerry "Group-N" tune up and running all hunky dory. It's got some features that seem cool, but in practice isn't a great idea.
- Turbo Anti-Lag
Kinda neat. You definitely get better response in that ~1sec after you hammer the throttle. Totally unnoticeable during your daily commute, other than it completely removes any and all trace of engine-braking. Your engine turns into a hot-air pump to keep your turbo spooling, and the only thing to slow you down is brakes and the wind. It also makes your car smell like burning.
- Rotational Idle
A necessary piece of the Anti-Lag puzzle. You have to jam your throttle open to around 1/10th to make sure enough air is moving through to the exhaust. With your throttle jammed open, the engine idles at 5,000RPM. To keep it sane, the ECU intermittently cuts spark to drop the idle to where it wants it. Makes your car idle like a lump of itshay. Cool for like 5 seconds, then you just want it to stop.
- No-Lift To Shift
Works as promised. Spark-cut makes for neat backfires just like the real rally cars. You need to yank some wires for you cruise control, though. That don't fly with me. And the 5 speed is allegedly too fragile for that kind of abuse. I'll probably just wire it as a sort of pit-lane limiter and roll down 17th Ave making noise.
- Launch Control
This is my bread and butter. A single table lets you set your fueling target for "rich as uckfay", so you get lots of smoke and stuff out the exhaust. The sound is deliciously WRC (except I don't have straight pipes), and it also makes your car smell like burning. I'll have to get some external video - hopefully there's flames, or this whole project is a bust and I'm keeping the GR.
