Topic: Still having registration issues?

After seeing yet another FB post where people are saying they are having problems registering I'm just wondering if there is any chance of going back to the old way of doing things?

If we're still having bot issues then I get it but it also seems like it's starting to affect traffic to the site.

When I applied to join back in May, it took a little over 3 weeks to get accepted. I had no problem with it, as I realize that the admins are extremely busy people, but just as a point of reference

While this is true some of them were complaining saying they never use the site because of all the captcha stuff, which implies they barely even tried using the site, because it turns off after what like 5 posts? In addition we've ran into people itchbaying before about this and it turned out that they only actually applied the day before.

I think it might be as more a cognitive problem with people not understanding the point of the manual approval system and captcha for the first X posts, than an actual issue with the rate memberships being approved. My membership was approved I think within 24 hours.

I honestly don't know about the post count captcha thing, nor do I really give a uckfay about it.

The complaints seemed to be about the initial approval of registration so I thought I would mention it.

I didn't see any posts from anyone...

I did, however, receive a PM about it so I found the ~20 valid registrations out of the ~500 spam accounts and approved them.  Anyone who was "in the queue" either received an approval email, or mistakenly received a rejection email.

Uhh... that's not us.  That's some "Subaru Club of Calgary" group (hint, we don't have a "Group" we have a "Page" you can like, that has a link to subscribe for the forums, we're also not all in Calgary (or even Alberta)).

Thanks for looking into in Grant, that's insane that there are so many spam related requests!

I'm pretty sure we're all acutely aware that the "Subaru Club of Calgary" isn't related to WSC. It's where all the people who dislike WSC in Calgary end up, and ideally the people we should reconcile with.. You know, the same guys we're trying to stop scaring off with the "Newb friendly thread"

Ryan Chipchase posted yesterday on the Subaru Club of Calgary FB page for VEX about the poll on here. A couple people replied about registration issues again.

Just wanted to bring i up as I don't like the divide it seems to cause between the two communities.

We are still having an extensive russian mafia spambot issue, so registration approvals are still manual.
The main mod that was doing this has been out of the hemisphere for a month, so they're getting delayed.

Existing members that know of "friends" who have registered and needs approvals can PM a mod (myself included) with the specific usernames of these people, and they'll be approved on the spot.

While we endeavour to do our best and keeping on top of the list, there are over 300+ in the queue right now. Most of them bots.
We're no different than other forums. Just last year I had to wait almost 6 weeks for one forum, 4 weeks at another.

These people are whining about the registration lag on a FB group that is in no way affiliated with us and to which non members have no access. This is supposed to solve the issue how, exactly?

I have been approving people who send a message to *US* via *our* FB page within a few hours.
