Broken plastic radiator hose connector (Help me fix my daily!)
« on: November 01, 2017, 02:16:18 pm »
Ok guys so I have some bad news. I was installing ancillary hoses on my car today to replace the old weathered and somewhat leaky hoses I previously had and everything went flawlessly. I filled the coolant back up and all was well until I went to but my factory air box intake snorkel back on. I somewhat bumped the hose that comes from the top left of the radiator to the coolant reservoir. Unlucky for me the little plastic piece the hose mounts to had to have been EXTREMELY brittle because I barely even touched the hose and even if I yanked on it it shouldn't have broken, right?

I have included a couple pictures (sorry the hose pic is out of focus but you get the gist) just in case you aren't aware of what piece 'im talking about

I am just wondering is there any easy fix to this, is whole black plastic top end of the radiator somehow replaceable or am I stuck with buying another radiator? Really hoping for you guys to help me out with any possible solution as this car is my daily so I am currently without a car need it back up and running for work and school ASAP.

Thanks in advance, Reid.

That crimped aluminum flange is going to make it very hard to replace the top plastic section. Additionally, there's no way a repair will hold up to pressure and vibration. Bite the bullet and buy a new rad. Consider Rockauto if you have time.

as mentioned above, you're better off just getting a newer rad, preferably one that is all aluminum. The plastic section is what made me replace mine, due to 10+ years of canadian winters. I got a mishimoto one and had no problems with it for the past 5 years if i remember correctly.

Get this https://www.princessauto.com/en/detail/2-pc-1-4-x-1-4-in-i-d-brass-hose-splicer/A-p0431692e
Shorten it appropriately with a hacksaw.
Expand hole in rad for tight friction fit.
Goop on some RTV.
Have new rad on order.
I may scream like a dainty lady, but I punch like a fairly strong 11-year-old.

Alright thank you guys for the quick replys. I have two local options options right now. Brand new OEM rad from a shop for $163, or a slightly used but not battered Killer Koyo All aluminum rad that the guy would settle on for $275 with an included rad shroud. Obviously I am leaning more towards the Koyo but I wouldnt mind a few opinions.

Thoughts/ experiences with Koyo as a brand?
