New member need advice
« on: August 10, 2020, 08:53:29 am »
Thanks everyone a newbie to forums,  I have a question for all of you I was offered a WRX stock 2011 with 240000km for $8 is this a good deal or am I possibly looking at major problems?  I was also offered another 2011 but it is misfiring at idle and check engine light on is this a serious problem?

Your advice is greatly appreciated

8$ is a pretty good deal.
The 3 is raw.  Lighter than more agile.  The 6 probably feels like a 747.  And by that contrast, my STI probably feels like the Hindenburg.  So GR's are like the International Space Station.

Presume 8k. Check if the second timing belt was done recently, along with a clutch. If not, bad deal. 8k would be good if the body and interior were reasonable and timing belt and services up to date. Check the "stock" bolts for wrench marks to see if it was returned to stock.

Misfiring could be a coil pack? Engine light could be for the misfire. Check the codes.

Don't know if I'd trust buying a Subaru for $8 lol.

This is why your Subaru experience turned you into a Mitsubishi driving vegan.

I would Subaru again if it cost me 8$, my subaru by the time I had sold it had costed me about 1688x that much. This was at the time you could bring over a GC STi for like 6500$ haha.

Lots of misfires in the facebook groups even after replacing ignition related items. The typical culprit though is low compression and requiring a rebuild. I would recommend a full compression and leak down test before considering this.

I'd avoid any subaru with a bad misfire at idle, unless you can do a compression test, or its cheap enough that you can put a new engine in. I would agree that 8k is fair if it was in good mechanical condition.

I'm still not certain this isn't a bot.. but do bots change subject titles mid thread?
